Great Under-Bed Storage Ideas

Storage table from Great Little Trading Co

Where do all these toys come from? Do they breed overnight? Do they sneak out and buy more companion toys when we aren't looking? And why if a toy has several pieces do they usually end up all over the house in different rooms - usually with one crucial piece missing?

This happens if you live in a large, medium or small-sized house. But if you live in a tiny house the 'toy volcano' effect can be a serious hindrance to normal family life. (Ever stepped on a piece of Lego?)

In a tiny house you usually don't have the luxury of play rooms dedicated just to the kids' stuff or even a nice big toy cupboard. That's why the space under the bed can be prime real estate.

Built-in vs free standing

If you built your tiny house from scratch (or are currently in the planning stages) then built in storage under and around the bed is a good option.

Or if you are ready to buy a new bed then there are many options with built-in drawers.

Low Loft Bed with 7 Drawer Dresser and 1 Bookcase

If you are stuck with your current tiny house and bed then you can still make the most of the space under the beds with free standing storage options which slide under and then out when you need them. What kind of storage you choose depends on both your storage needs and how you want the storage and bed area to look.

DIY or shop bought

If you are buying storage for your under bed space then your options are limited only by your budget and personal taste.

If your bed can fit a trundle bed under it then you can choose to use the trundle frame for toy storage instead of a spare bed. See the picture at the top of this post for a gorgeous storage toy solution from the website of Great Little Trading Company, one of my favourite places to look for kids' furniture.

And if you are crafty or handy with a saw then you can always build your own storage boxes and bins to fit the space you have.

From The Storage Geek

This is an amazing drawer project from The Storage Geek blog. You may have seen the picture doing the rounds on Pinterst but here is a link to the blog by the guy who build it.
